Give a Hoot and help CWC!

We want to thank you for your continuing support of California Wildlife Center and our on-going efforts to care for our injured and orphaned native wildlife.

So far this year we've cared for nearly 2,000 animals, through the efforts of our dedicated staff and the numerous volunteers who continue to donate their time in our hospital, baby care unit, outreach programs and for our annual fundraiser. We, honestly, could not do it without you!

As you know, CWC receives no federal, state or local funding. We rely solely on our membership, grants, and the support of the communities we serve.

The highlight of this year was completing our new state-of-the-art fawn enclosure. Click here to link to the full story in our latest newsletter.

Baby Opossum

Historically December and January are usually our slowest months — but we've had a few surprises so far this month! This past week we picked up 7 orphaned opossums from the Santa Monica shelter — weighing just over 1 oz each. This isn't the time of year we're supposed to be seeing babies — but all are being cared for in our hospital.

Dr. Tom and our hospital techs have been busy taking care of several injured pelicans found with barbed fishing hooks, fishing line and weights impeded in their pouches and wings — as well as the red shouldered hawk that was hit by a car, the great horned owl that came in with head trauma, and the gray fox with the fractured leg.

Northern Fur Seal Pup

The Marine Mammal Rescue Team picked up an adorable, but emaciated, Northern Fur Seal pup last week, weighing just 9+ pounds, and transported him to the Marine Mammal Care Center in San Pedro for rehabilitation.

We're still caring for Homer the fawn who was confiscated by Fish and Game from a private home in October. We're busy looking for a zoo or sanctuary to take care of this little guy — but in the meantime, he’s getting plenty of needed attention from our staff and volunteers.

Won't you please take a moment to renew your membership to CWC and help us give our wildlife a second chance?

Thanks for your support - Victoria Harris, staff, and volunteers
